MC-Wissenschaft: International Business Strategy: When West meets East (Achtung: Vortrag ist in Englisch / Diskussion auf Deutsch möglich)
The nature of global business is constantly changing. Just a decade or two ago, global business was still dominated by a relatively small number of multinational companies. Today, we observe more and more small and medium-sized companies entering the global marketplace.
In this new stage of globalization, Asian (and in particular Chinese) firms no longer limit their role to serving as workshops for western companies. Rather, Asian companies of various industries, small and large, are gearing up to become formidable competitors of western firms in the global marketplace. For western firms it becomes increasingly important to understand the strategic management thinking that governs these new competitors.
The objective of this talk is to provide a perspective on business strategies of Asian firms. I will explore what characterizes Asian strategic management thinking and contrast it with western approaches to international business strategy. Finally, I will examine how western firms need to reappraise their view of Asian management in order to sustain their role in an ever more globalizing world.
